THE EUROPEAN UNION YOUTH ORCHESTRA IN THE PARK OF THE PALAIS
In the summer of
2013, it was again concert time in the park. This was the third concert given
there by the European Union Youth Orchestra after 2008 and 2012. More than 300
music lovers came to spend a summer evening listening to Europe’s young musical
talents. Patron of the event was Dr. Othmar Karas, Vice-President of the
European Parliament and to that extent closely linked with the EU Youth
Orchestra in his official capacity. The orchestra comprises 140 musicians aged between 14 and 24 years who are selected every years from over 4000 applicants. Back in 2012 the president Martin Schulz sent the following greeting words to the concert in the park: "The EUYO shows us what European integration is really about: Bring together the best of the bests and combine excellence with passion and assiduity.
Should Europe rediscover this trias then this indeed would be a great reason to sing an Ode to Joy."

At the park concert 2013, the audience was offered a rich programme once the Vice-President of the European Parliament had delivered his speech.
- The European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) is a primary example of a successful cooperation between culture and
politics. It was found by Lionel and Joy Bryer who run the International
Youth Foundation based in the UK. On 8 March 1976 the European
Parliament confirmed the foundation of the orchestra. In August 2012 Joy
Bryer, an adorably dynamic lady, held a fulminant speech in the park.
