In the summer of 2013, it was again concert time in the park. This was the third concert given there by the European Union Youth Orchestra after 2008 and 2012. More than 300 music lovers came to spend a summer evening listening to Europe’s young musical talents. Patron of the event was Dr. Othmar Karas, Vice-President of the European Parliament and to that extent closely linked with the EU Youth Orchestra in his official capacity. The orchestra comprises 140 musicians aged between 14 and 24 years who are selected every years from over 4000 applicants. Back in 2012 the president Martin Schulz sent the following greeting words to the concert in the park: "The EUYO shows us what European integration is really about: Bring together the best of the bests and combine excellence with passion and assiduity. Should Europe rediscover this trias then this indeed would be a great reason to sing an Ode to Joy."
