THE OTTO VON HABSBURG PRICE FOR JOURNALISTS

For news "from Europe", it can be difficult to follow the ramified streams of communication from the remote heights of Europe to the plains of the "province"; "news of Europe" tends to seep away before it can reach the smaller regions, cities, towns and villages. Conversely, it is very difficult for news from the minor realities to find its way to a wider European audience. In response to this problem, a small group met in the Palais in 2001. One of the solutions proposed was a prize to be awarded for drawing attention to diversity – the Otto von Habsburg Prize. The idea was gladly taken up by MIDAS – the European Association of Daily Newspapers in Minority and Regional Languages. MIDAS has now been awarding the prize since 2004. The photo gallery shows Otto von Habsburg during a visit to the Palais and some of the prize-giving ceremonies.
